The Weenie Poll

Poll #836940 Little Weenie Munchkin: Yay or Nay?

Little Weenie Munchkin: Yay or Nay?

OMG, she's the cutest thing EVER! Please strap on your jet-propulsion sneakers and sprint, with Chariots of Fire playing in the background, to BFF's office and BRING THAT PUPPY HOME!!
Are you fucking crazy? Hell NO!
I acknowledge her cuteness, but it's biting off more than you can chew. There will be other dogs who need homes when you're sure that you're ready.
She ain't cute--and what do you need with a 3.5lb rat, anyway?

Oh. My. Gosh!!
How darling!
How old is the little chi-weenie?
That’s pretty much my *ideal* mix for a dog!

In my opinion, if you’ve previously been a happy dog owner, then you can probably jump in and do it again without a whole lot of analysis. Unless your lifestyle has changed significantly – then you should consider the changes before committing to a dog with a 15-20 year life span. (Small dogs last longer than big ones.)
Also, though I’ve never owned more than 1 dog at a time, I think that it might be less work in some ways (they entertain each other) and more work in some ways (training them so they don’t become a brat pack, and cleaning up poo x 2).
Also, what’s your lifestyle like? Do you want a jogging companion, or a sofa-snuggling companion? Or maybe one of each?
I imagine that with your family situation, you’d probably have the option of a pet sitter if you ever went out of town. It’s fairly easy to travel with 1 pet, but it gets way more challenging when you have multiples.

That said… you know that I’ve prejudiced in favor of dachshunds. I love them. LOVE!
I think they’re angels.
If you get her, I might want to come visit! (…though I don’t know where you live. heh)

for your quick reply and support. The dog is ready to go home TODAY, so I'm feeling all nervous and anxious and excited and giddy all at the same time. It should be noted, however, that if I don't take her, one of BFF's vet tech's is going to, so little ChiWeenie won't be homeless.

My lifestyle has, in fact, changed significantly, but I'd say that I've become MORE of the dog-owning type. Several years ago, I would make spur-of-the-moment trips out of town or crash at friends' houses relatively often without thinking twice. It was nice not to have to worry about letting a dog out or feeding a cat or whatever. These days, I lead a much more domestic existance and am really enjoying that aspect of my late-20s (it helps that I'm simultaneously living a more edgy, perverted existance than ever before, but that's another blog entry and frankly, has nothing to do with my ChiWeenie).

As for what I'm looking for in a dog, I had originally wanted a cat-dog. I've always been a huge cat person, but as I don't think I'm home enough to justify cat ownership, I wanted a dog that I could tote around with me on errands, to my gf's house, etc. Sadie is much bigger than what I would have imagined for myself, but I love that I can take her to the dog park or run with her if I felt like it. This dog would be my cuddle-pie and BFF says that she'll fit easily into one of those god-awful, Paris Hilton, dog-carrying purses (not that I would necessarily carry one, but I'd like to have the option).

And yes, you should totally come visit!! Washington, DC is a happenin' place!

Re: PS
My new baby is about 18 weeks old!
She's home with me now, and I'm letting her chill out in her kennel... though she's not really feeling the chill vibe yet.

size & safety
Since I got my 3.5kg pup home, it occured to me that your prospective 3.5 pound pup would be half as big as mine!
I wonder if it would be safe for the wee one to play with the big one? You should probably ask your vet's opinion on this, cause you wouldn't want the big one to hurt the small one while innocently playing.
